Ternae Jordan
Carson-Newman University will host Ternae Jordan Sr., pastor of Chattanooga’s Mount Canaan Baptist Church, on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, to kickoff C-N’s Black History Month initiatives. The event is from 6:30-8 p.m. and open to the public. “We are excited about welcoming Dr. Jordan to Mossy Creek for Black History Month,” said Gloria Walker, vice president for student services. “Dr. Jordan will present a biblical insight into the role of the Black church as he shares his well-documented experiences.” A second-generation minister, Jordan began pastoring at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Chattanooga before serving 15 years at the Greater Progressive Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Ind. Jordan also is the current president-elect of the Tennessee Baptist Pastors Conference.

Three regional Youth Evangelism Conferences will be held in 2022. The East Tennessee YEC will be held Feb. 25-26 at First Baptist Church, Concord, in Knoxville. The Middle Tennessee YEC will be held March 11-12 at New Vision Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. The West Tennessee YEC will be held March 25-26 at Germantown Baptist Church, Germantown. On Friday, the doors open at 6 p.m. at each location with the event beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday, doors open at 9 a.m. with the event beginning at 10 a.m. For information on speakers at each location, visit https://www.tnbaptist.org/yec. The West Tennessee Pastor’s Conference and Valentine’s Banquet will be held Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Grant Center at Union University, Jackson. Steve Gaines, pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church, Jackson, will be the guest speaker.

DEATHS
Longtime Tennessee Baptist pastor Rod Lee Miller died Dec. 11 at the age of 91. He served as pastor of several churches in Sweetwater Baptist Association and led numerous revivals during his 45 years of ministry. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Faye Miller, and is survived by five children, six grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
William Wesley “Will” Barnes Sr., former pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Rossville, died Jan. 7 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellen Barnes, three children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Rhesa Davis retired Dec. 26 as pastor of Feathers Chapel Baptist Church, Somerville. Sam Wolfe was called as the new pastor, effective Jan. 2.
