Grant Gaines
Grant Gaines, senior pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Jackson, for the past eight years, has been called as senior pastor of Belle Aire Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, effective Aug. 4. Gaines is a graduate of Union University, Jackson and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. Gaines has served as an adjunct professor at both Union University and the Southern Seminary Extension Center in Jackson. He and his wife Melisa have five children.
Adam Dooley
Adam Dooley has been called as senior pastor of Englewood Baptist Church, Jackson. He comes to the position from the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Sunnyvale, Texas. He served as pastor of Red Bank Baptist Church, Chattanooga, from 2006-10. He is a graduate of Clear Creek Baptist Bible College, Pineville, Ky., and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky. He has held positions in three state Baptist conventions, including Tennessee, authored two books and serves as an adjunct professor at Southern Seminary. He and his wife Heather have five children.
Danny Chisholm, senior pastor of University Heights Baptist Church, Springfield, Mo., has been called as pastor of First Baptist Church, Clinton. He holds degrees from Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe) and New Orleans (La.) Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Lori have three children.
In June, Richie Farley, pastor of Vine Ridge Baptist Church, Crawford and Richard Harris, pastor of Columbia Hill Baptist Church, Monterey, (both in Riverside Baptist Association) and Marvin Pryor, member of Bear Creek Baptist Church in Cookeville (Stone Baptist Association) all received bachelor of theology degrees from Faith Baptist College in Spring City.
CHURCHES
Short Creek Baptist Church, Christiana, will have homecoming services on Sunday, Aug. 11, beginning with singing at 10:30 a.m., worship at 11:30 a.m., followed by a catered meal. The group Trademark will sing.
Red Bank Baptist Church, Chattanooga, will host “A Night of Champions” on Friday, July 26, featuring Greg McElroy, a former quarterback at the University of Alabama, and Patrick Nix, a former quarterback at Auburn University. The community-wide event begins at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $20. The event is “a high energy night for football players, coaches and families” to enjoy fellowship, inspiration, “but most importantly, we will hear about personal faith that makes all the difference,” said Sam Greer, senior pastor at Red Bank Baptist. DEATHS
Brent Seals
Robert “Brent” Seals, 68, of Johnson City, died July 1. A native of Jefferson City, Seals served as pastor of churches in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, including First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, where he served for 18 years, from 1989-2007. After retiring from First Baptist, he also served at Lynnridge Baptist Church, Elizabethton. Seals served in the Marines during the Vietnam era. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pat Vineyard Seals, two children and two grandchildren.
Retired Tennessee Baptist director of missions Harold A. Shoulders died June 28 in Clarksville at the age of 95. Shoulders served in the Navy during World War II. A member of Hilldale Baptist Church, Clarksville, Shoulders was an ordained Baptist minister and served for many years as director of Cumberland Baptist Association, based in Clarksville.
James Lindsay
James W. “Jim” Lindsay, 87, died June 27 in Elizabethton. He served in ministry for more than 66 years, serving as pastor of churches in Greeneville, Nashville, Maryville and Elizabethton. After retirement, he served numerous churches as interim pastor. Lindsay was also active in Tennessee Baptist Convention life in the area of evangelism. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Allen Lindsay, three daughters, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Jahala Thomason, 62, of Mountain City, died July 12. She was the wife of Rick Thomason, pastor of Central Baptist Church, Mountain City. She is survived by her husband, two sons and two grandchildren.
