CORDOVA — On Sunday, Aug. 12, more than 1,300 members of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, left the church building and went door-to-door in a five-mile radius around their church.
Offering a simple gift bag and prayer, Bellevue members were able to invite the community to church, but more importantly they were able to invite them to Jesus.
Bellevue’s pastor, Steve Gaines, is currently leading Bellevue through a month long emphasis on “Building Relationships and Sharing Jesus.” His desire is that everybody living within the church’s community would have the opportunity to hear the good news of the gospel.
Gaines noted hundreds of visits were made and dozens of salvation decisions. “We planted and watered and God gave the increase,” Gaines said in a Tweet. “Praise the Lord Jesus Christ.”
While many church members felt uncomfortable leading a team door-to-door, many were willing to come along as support for the teams.
One church member, Larry Anderson, said he was “surprised to see the willingness that people had to not only come to the door, but listen to an entire presentation of the Gospel.”
Anderson’s team was one of dozens that reported a profession of faith as a result of the door-to-door evangelism. Another church member, Jamie Otto, was able to lead a man to the Lord. Afterwards, the new convert expressed his gratitude and said he had been waiting for someone to come to his house “with some good news.”
Bellevue will continue the door-to-door visits throughout Sundays in August with the hope and expectation of seeing many more come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
